END FACTORY FARMING ADS

END FACTORY FARMING ADS ⦁

Factory farming hides on our streets

Why don’t adverts for beef burgers, fried chicken or meat from supermarkets ever show us where the food really comes from?

Enticing food adverts are everywhere. But behind so many of these ads is an intensive farming system with significant impacts on animal welfare, the environment, farmers and public health.

It's time to make room for more honest conversations about our food.

Join us.
Gag Big Ag.

What is Big Ag?

Most of the animals farmed for food in the UK are kept in intensive farming systems which prioritise maximum production. As a result, these confined animals lead miserable, often very short lives. They are often crammed together, unable to display natural behaviours, and subjected to cruel treatment, painful procedures and psychological harm.

This system is bad for farmers too, as mega-farms spread and smaller, more sustainable farmers are priced out or pushed towards intensification.

Big Animal Agriculture (Big Ag) is also polluting our rivers, driving antibiotic resistance and harming public health. But their adverts tell a very different story. These unavoidable ads for the products of factory farming are shaping our choices every day, to prop up an industrial food system that is harming all of us, from farmers to families.

We don’t want factory farming ads.

We deserve a healthy, just and sustainable food system that works for everyone.

From Amsterdam to Hackney…

Cities are saying no to Big Ag ads.

Hackney Council has already pledged to end meat and dairy advertising on sites under their control. This would make them the first UK council to do so, following in the steps of Amsterdam and other cities in the Netherlands who have already banned meat advertising.

For these forward-thinking cities, it makes no sense to be allowing Big Meat and Dairy to promote their damaging, industrially-farmed products in public spaces.

Local, sustainable businesses deserve to thrive. And we all deserve access to healthy, sustainable food.

But Big Meat and Dairy corporations have so much power that they can dominate our attention through advertising.

Most food advertising is for unsustainable, industrially produced, processed meat and dairy. This restricts the freedom of small producers to compete fairly. And it restricts our ability to support them.

By removing the visual pollution of Big Meat & Dairy ads, we can shift demand and power away from big corporations. We can see more clearly what’s on our plates, and our communities can have the freedom to choose a food system which reflects our values.

Let's make space for better food.
